Hi all, been a while … just popping up some pics of my latest works, and products on offer in my online shop.
“In April 2020, after 11 years of pretty much painting full-time five days a week & creating a large online presence, creating guidance cards, holding regular art workshops & retreats , & building a successful career out of my art, I decided, after feeling overwhelmed & burnt out, to take an extended period of time off and paint soley and only for me.(as opposed to painting to sell). I had no idea how long this would last and I didn’t retreat completely, I still posted my art online but it was merely to share my expressions of my inward journey. Amazingly ,these artworks all sold. This surprised me, as I had a complete change of direction and theme for my artwork… I painted women’s faces, faces from my imagination, faces from my meditations, faces with symbols & totems, faces with abstract shapes & nature. I emerged from this cocoon in about July of 2021…. I was over faces lol!In March of 2021 I went on a magical trip to the South Island of NZ with my husband , and it had a profound effect on me. I took 3-4 months to process , to sit with it all before starting on my series on the bold unapologetic terrain of this raw untouched land, it was palpable, the energy of it was in me. The effect was that I actually change not only the theme of what I was painting, but my style as well , this land begged for simple lines and no fuss, not something I was used to! I started with the Milford Sound & Moeraki Boulders, and it soon evolved into stylised landscapes & random rocks, layers of land, more so echoing the Coromandel Peninsula as the months past, and of course injecting my adoration for the ocean in with them.
Layers. Depth. Pieces of the puzzle. Stepping Stones onward … the Journey is ongoing & evolving with every creative experiment. Because let’s face it every piece I do IS an experiment. As an Intuitive Painter there is no planning or conscious thought as to how or what a ‘result’ will look or feel like, it is just starting and going with that flow, and I know the feeling… when it’s ‘right’”
Right now? Outdoor butterfly art is where I’m at! – in progress..

My Guidance Cards are now 13x9cm . (and 400gsm card stock with a silk finish).
My original vision for these cards was this larger size, but at the time , 3 years ago, I couldn’t find anywhere to print this size , near here, that was cost effective. Finally , I’ve found somewhere and I’m thrilled with the results, they look amazing!
They are exactly the same as before, just bigger, and I think, better 🙂

After a somewhat prolific painting period in Feb/MArch, I was so pleased to be able to have some of these on display for the Mercury Bay Art Escape (Studio tour) recently. Also happy that some sold, and some are going to 2 separate galleries in our region.
I am totally loving my new abstract pieces, harking back to my first days of painting, and combining with some techniques both learned/inspired from others, and also self discovery as I go.
and last but not least , a commission I completed for a man who owns a Bed & Breakfast on the shores of our beautiful Lake Taupo, named after our native owl, ‘Ruru’, with views of the lake, and Mt’s Tongariro, Ngarahoe & Ruapehu. He asked for the owl to be the feature and for it to be set at night….I was really pleased with how it turned out.

Finally finished Tribal moon Goddess. Phew.
That is the first face I have painted and, whilst I got the shape ok, the shading was a different story altogther.
Very happy with how she turned out, I didnt want her to look real, but I did want her to have a realness about her essence.
This one also finished. One of my faves actually.
Not sure why, I think its the magical dreamy quality about it, it just feels good for me to look at 🙂

I have so much more to load up, I will be back!
When it is overcast outside and my studio seems a little dull and dark,i have this amazing industrial light that my partner put up for me,
its fantastic, so light and bright and perfect for varnishing, can see any imperfections immediately.
so these three are what I have been working on for the last week or so,
really enjoying the bright clearness of summer that gets into my bones and reflects in my art……..
all in progress :

and last but not least, some more Reina inspirations:
I have 4 commissions to complete in the next month or so, so I have about 6 paintings on the go at the moment. Due to a rather, in fact insanely busy time in my life, I have not been painting as regularly as I normally do… this week finally have been able to get right into it with very little interruption.
I have made a start on 2 of the commissions:
the top one, the client said: ‘do whatever you want’ ,
the bottom one is to compliment another painting of mine this person bought last month,..she wants them either side of her bed. So I had guidelines for the colours used and shapes etc.
Both are going to Australia.
This one below sold before it was finished and I completed it and was posted to Australia yesterday:
Im waiting on a canvas I have ordered to arrive so I can start a big painting togo to Holland, 🙂
and there is also one going to Alaska, a lovely little one that I have started, just the background so far, but looking really good.
My practice boards are getting a total workout, always trying out different techniques and colour combos, I have two main things going on right now…
1/dark background with lighter bold shapes and/or stneciling… and
2/ light bright spring colours, (not pale summer colours) but more intense blues, greens, purples, yellow, white… combining them in a way that best expresses my feeling,
really enjoying where I am at with my art/process at the moment, fell like I am able to combine all my experience with what is inside of me and adequately create that feeling. 🙂
have decided to do a series, or a theme of paintings. My last post, ‘Splash of Red’, is part of the series. Naturally I have been evolving toward this for quite some time, its fairly obvious that I have bits and bobs of the last 2 years of my art all wrapped into one now.
So the latest one I have just completed is this:
Again, I am really enjoying this piece. It took a bit of ‘sorting out’ , getting the flow of lines correct, making sure everything had a flow, and yet, I didn’t want everything to have the ‘full stop’, i quite like some movement just disappearing off into nothing ness, and some ‘lines’ just not really going anywhere, but yeh within of that, it needed a balanced, or it looked completely off. At one point I had to keep walking away from it for several hours, and returning for that ‘fresh look’, so I could actually see what was happening on the canvas. I chose these colours because I wanted a real feel of the ocean (blues, greens, teals,) with dynamic energy & power (reds, purples & yellow). The white is fro drama, and also I like how it reminds me of ocean spray, froth, light through water… really love that. The ocean is in my blood and has been since I was born. I have never been able to love too far from the sea, ONCE when I was 19 I loved inland, not far, only about 10km from the sea (here in NZ that is inland! haha) and I loathed it, I felt claustrophobic, I was always trying to get out to the sea, so I made a resolution to never do that again, and since then I have never lived more than about 200m from the waters edge.
So, Im really feeling this series,
it started with this one:
then the one in the last blog entry with the red.
what next? not sure… I may even end up calling them the Water, Air, Fire, Earth Wave series…. *thinks* yep.. its heading that way for sure.
Other things I am working on:
not finished-almost there
March was so busy for me! omg, conpleted 2 commissions, and sold 3 other paintings,as well as organising other art paraphernalia to go overseas.
Somewhere inbetween i managed to start 2 more paintings this being one of them:
felt the need, with such a short summer, to have some greens and yellows, then of course, I have to have the contrast, so threw in the purple and blue….really liking it so far, ..it pulls me in, I feel light when I look at it, so i really want to be careful not to make it too ‘heavy’ both visually and energetically, I want to keep the ‘uplift’ factor going.
And I loved my Heart Soul Whole (see previous blog entry) so much, I started a version of it for myself, not triptych, no words….

obviously not complete, and its big, which i like, big bold piece will be perfect in my entrance way.
Sold this one:
a fun thing i did in a very short space of time…didnt feel the need to add to it, even though i knew it was quite basic and simple, i liked that. 🙂
and sold this one finally, a fave of mine, went to Australia….

and just so this post looks a little bit pretty lol!, here is a very nice pic to look at:
Im not and never have been a painter of fruit bowls, people or landscapes, -anything that ends up happening to look like one of these is PURELY accidental, not design :-)… oh & dont get me wrong, I have FULL respect for those that do and love it, …I dont. My kicks are from experiences, and feelings, the stuff within. All sounds rather deep and ommm i know, but really this is where im at. I remember at school, art, yip, won all the prizes for COPYING stuff, *sigh* this is so not satisfying for me, there is no expression of me when i copy a photo or a ‘thing’ and draw/paint it onto a page/canvas. I want to get soul stuff down, I want to be real (not for ONE minute saying that painting things like fruit aren’t real of course they are, its relative i guess :))about what i am projecting and what ever is then being perceived is up to the viewer. If someone looks at my art and gets a great feeling or connects with it in anyway that stirs something up for them then i am thrilled. I never want to dictate what thsoe things should be, therefore another reason im not going there with a bowl of roses and such.
Having said all that, yes, lately have investigated the ‘heart’ theme, and have been really enjoying it, .. trying to get it on the canvas in a way that is open for individual perception. Heart to me is about feeling, not something tangible in a solid 3D way, something that can be felt in a million ways. A heart can be sensual, sensitive, vulnerable, and/or it can be empowered, strong and passionate. SOme hearts are closed for the time being, some are totally free. 🙂
If i have an aversion to something i will often ‘try it out’ just to ‘put it to rest’ once and for all. Sometimes it surprises me that i do enjoy it and the result is ok, or more than ok, and i like that. The Gemini I Am needs these challenges.
this man, (below)Jonas Gerard, is amazing, huge inspiration to me, he paints to music and has the best philosophies. He paints with his hands too, fingers, palms, he FEELS the paint onto the canvas… I watch him on Youtube and LOVE his freedom.
Jonas Gerard live painting. 🙂

I swore i would never paint a heart, to cliche for me i said, lol! But, well, ……….hmm, here it is.
not too shabby really, and i really like how plump and sexy it looks but sure, not bad for a first effort, maaayyyyybe i will do another in future creations, but dont quote me on that. Added the koru, or spiral of life rocketing out thru the leaves as a point of interest and something dynamic in the foreground.
Still loving my background colours of blues, greens, turquoises and indigos,.. shape & flow SO important to me, probably THE most important part of my work, getting the flow and movement right for what i am wanting to express.
LOVE this!!! Did the background months ago, and knew it wasn’t complete, but had to wait and feel the right thing to go with it, had no idea what it was going to be till it just happened. The cord flowed around on the canvas board like magic, it was painted and finshed after that, in about an hour.
There is a softness, yes strength i was attempting to convey, I hope i have achieved this. 🙂

A total JOY to paint this! It literally flowed out from within, was done in lightning speed, something that easy, that flowing that enjoyable is not a long laborious process. 🙂 Its thrilling when a piece comes together like this, literally no ‘thought’ what so ever,..all just heart/intuition/hands and paintbrush.
Once again, flowing beautiful shapes and colour, blend of colour is my inspiration.
Was sold before it was finished.
When I did the background for this one, I knew I was thinking about the lower chakras, and the corresponding colours (above), intuitively I drew with pencil initially, the flowing cord shape you see, and it was a very simple and quick process, painting it all in took a little longer, but i loved the result, and it made me feel enriched, warm and full of life flow. Also a type of portal opens up with the yellow and the circle around it…. the ‘light’.
I was very reluctant to put this one up for sale, i was definitely emotionally attached to it, but i got over that reasonably quickly LOL! and its definitely for sale now.
