Pearl of Wisdom – Painting
Pearls are symbolic of wisdom gained through experience. The gems are believed to offer protection, as well as attract good luck and wealth. They are well-known for their calming effects. Pearls have a way of bringing balance to your karma.
This is one of my latest pieces, continuing my ocean, reef them.
Acrylic & Ink on canvas ~60x60cm ~ Sold
Paua – Painting finished & Sold
I have just completed this Paua (abalone) painting. Capturing those shells is very challenging, I have painted Paua once before and it took a whole day to get it right. And you have to get it right, it’s a very unforgiving subject. 😎 The light, the colours, the blending… a test of my patience & determination 😆 I
Overall, ’m loving those colours too, warm goldy greens, teals, turquoises, lime & blues.
Found it’s new home in Singapore with a regular collector of my art.
Latest finished artwork- Ocean themed.
Here is my latest painting. I got inspired after a boat company licensed my seabed image for a boat wrap ( will post separately on that) and I felt excited to paint something in that theme & style again. The entire painting (100cm x 75cm) took less than a week, it all came together with an ease & flow of this style that I haven’t tapped into in years. I used acrylics & acrylic inks. A most enjoyable refreshing experience!
Sold 🙂
Third & Final Install- Seabed to Stars
Last week we made the trip to Auckland with the final 3 paintings to install.
Here’s a short look at the final painting, on level 3 of the stairwell.
I’ll have a longer, beginning to end vid coming soon.
Install: Painting 1- New Zealand Native Art- ‘Seabed’.
The first painting, of three, (2.4m x 1m) has now been installed on level one of the internal stairwell of the office block.
For those of you tha dont know, I got a contract to paint 6 panels, each 2.4m x 1m for the internal stairwell of a major city office block, the external wall being glass so will be able to be seen from the road. It is all based around native New Zealand (where I live) so the lower level is seabed, the middle is native forest/bush and the upper will be NZ skies. First panel now complete. The next one is a diptych. and the final is a triptych.
Couldn’t be happier .
Painting Paua / Abalone
Cropped piece of large wall mural of NZ Seabed.
This was a real challenge. The perfectionist in me needed this to be exactly right, the feel of it, the colours everything had to be exactly as I sensed it should be and I was settling for nothing less. I painted over it three times completely wiping it out and starting again , before I manage to finally get on a roll that felt on the right track.
Relief! That is the feeling when everything else Floyd so easily with this painting and this is completely stopped me in my tracks. The end result I am thrilled with and it sits perfectly and balance with the rest of the painting.

Whale / Tohora Commission
This is a commission for a friend. Ive painted loads of whales, but decided to change the angle of this, I wanted it to more dramatic. I akso, for the first tine am using acrlic markers for some of the detailing , certainly alot faster than brush & ink.
Really happy how it’s progressing so far 🙂
Silver Fern & Tui
New Zealand has many native flora and fauna.
We are blessed with some of the most stunning native bush in the world.
We live between native bush and the sea, so I get to go bush walking when ever I want to.
I could load up 100 pics 🙂 of my walks if i wanted to, but i wont , (collective sigh of relief lol)…
here are 3 to show you where i get my inspiration from………
….to then paint things like this:

and, right outside my bedroom window in spring, are gorgous wee chaps like this Tui bird,
(another native of New Zealand),
talking away, clicking and singing with what sounds alot like a bell bird at times.
The stunning ‘metallic’ colours on this bird are mesmerising to me, these pics dont really show the deep gun metal grey, emerald greens and deep turquoises…the subtle nuances of them are what fascinate me, not a blaring vibrant “look at me” type thing, but more, an elegance, (esp with that ‘cloak’ of feathers around its nape), and a slight arrogance in a way. They are quite naturally tame, you can get within a metre or so when they are feeding and they dont mind at all.
so here are 2 of my Tui paintings:

Painted Mannequin Torso
Finally was able to finish one of many mannequin torsos!
very happy with the outcome and sold to a regular buyer in Australia.
Much more difficult to paint fine smooth lines on this surface,
so this took alot longer than I normally would to paint something similar on canvas.
I have more to paint, and Im looking forward to experimenting with feathers and other things!

Whales & Dolphins
I succumbed, and finally painted a dolphin. 🙂 ‘Reina Style’ of course 🙂
Here is the result, the hardest part was getting the shape of the dolphin right, I had about 4 goes at it
until I was satisfied it looked right (in perspective). The rest was easy, so much fun, like coloring in when you were a kid!
SImilar thing with the whales below, getting the shape right was the most important thing and what I
focussed on. After that, it just flowed……
I have a 3rd whale on the go, a commission, and perhaps there is another dolphin inside me somewhere…?
as usual, you can contact me at: reinacottier@gmail,com if there are any queries. 🙂
Tis all for now… bye. x
the ‘Legend’ continues….
I have decided to call this series ‘Legend’.

February 2014
hey all, been a while huh… Ive had 9 weeks off painting because we moved house & towns,
we now live by the beach, a beautiful coastal town with the back drop of mountains covered in native bush… so so so happy here……
and then it was summer school holidays for 6 weeks here in New Zealand 🙂 Absolutely no painting gets done with kids around, 🙂
So, the above painting is (finished and sold) one of the first I have done this last week.
Decided to kick of the year with a blast of colour and i have to say I love it.

this one is also finished, (and sold),
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The 3 below are all in progress 🙂 so I have been busy, and as usual have about 7 paintings on the go at once
which is the only way I can work.
I have no plans in store for my art this year, other than to keep producing paintings that
make me feel good. Being by the sea is so much better for my soul/creativity.
Butterfly Series
A few months ago I spontaneously painted an abstract-ish butterfly, it was so popular, sold within 5 mins of posting it, and everyone said ‘you HAVE to paint more butterflies!’……
I didnt feel like it at the time, but a few weeks ago, I suddenly had an urge, and in my usual style, have painted about 10 in 3 short weeks. LOL!
Here are a few of the ones I have done so far, more to come, they have all, but one, sold…..
ALL images & artwork is ©Reina Cottier Art 2013
More to come…… 🙂
