Saturday & Sunday, March 2 & 3 2019 is the first of 2 weekends (the second weekend being 9th & 10th March) for the annual open studio tour. This is my 5th year and I so love being a part of it. Artists must have a selection of original art for sale, and with that I also have prints, cards, calendars, coasters my Guidance Cards, and other merchandise available. People get to come and see my studio, and talk to me about my art and my process. Here is a little taste of what I have been working on,… a Sea Goddess theme is prominent at the moment, i have 5 mermaid-influenced paintings almost finished. 🙂 Im using inks, acrylics and mixed media.
If you have any questions , please dont hesitate to ask, there is a ‘Contact’ button here at the top of the page, or im on Instagram & Facebook: ‘Reina Cottier Art’.
Here, finally, is my online shop, and Im thrilled.
Its been a long time coming, behind the scenes work on & off for what feels like for ever,
More products will be added over time, but this is a good start,
Yes, there very well may be teething issues, (so far so good tho?!),
but please, if there is something amiss, something not working,
a product, artwork you desperately want and cant see… PLEASE let me know.
There is a Contact tab at the top of the shop page.
I think this has to be one of my favourite pieces I have ever created. It has a vibrancy, an energy about it,.. its so alive and raw. I have reluctantly let it go to a gallery , but I wont be disappointed it it doesn’t sell (lol!) Id love to keep it 🙂
Its a mixed media piece: collage, ink, acrylic.
Last week we made the trip to Auckland with the final 3 paintings to install.
Here’s a short look at the final painting, on level 3 of the stairwell.
I’ll have a longer, beginning to end vid coming soon.
in other news, colouring book is going really well,
the regional paper did a feature piece on me and it spurred alot of interest
resulting in many sales of the book, so very happy about that! 🙂
Im also helping students at Tairua School do a whale mural for the school pool wall.
We have cut it into ’tiles’ and they will be mounted slightly apart…
progress is going well, with only detailing left to do, here is a part pic of it, not complete.
And last week, I had a stall at the Whitianga Art and Craft Fair… again, very successful, and alot fo fun.
Met some awesome local artists, and sold plenty of prints, colouring books and cards.
I also got 3 commissions out of it, and sold a mini board and 2 paintings…
cant really ask for more than that really, very pleased with the results.
Been wanting to paint something with an angelic feel for quite sometime, but wasnt sure how to proceed.
A lovely client asked me to paint her some angel wings, and after I had done those, I suddenly felt inspired to paint the three paintings Im posting here. There is something very serene about the process in painting these, I was inclined to turn the music donw (I normally have it blasting) and didnt cope well with the phone going or anything distracting me for that matter. 🙂
Finally finished Tribal moon Goddess. Phew.
That is the first face I have painted and, whilst I got the shape ok, the shading was a different story altogther.
Very happy with how she turned out, I didnt want her to look real, but I did want her to have a realness about her essence.
VERY happy to announce that I finally have sorted my YouTube channel and have uploaded a whole pile of slideshow vids.
SOme are of last years art, and others are right up ot the present moment, including my Shades of White Series above.
Im so happy with how they have turned out, I managed to get some awesome royalty free music to go along with it, and I have credited the musicians in the blurbs with the vid.

I got 3 more commissions this week, AND had already started some other paintings, for fun, so I have a whole pile of unfinished art at the moment, and lots of ‘endings’ to do. It IS like a story, a beginning a middle and an end. They are all calling out to me, and time is just not stretching far enough at the moment. Doesn’t help that i decided to spend 2 weeks celebrating my birthday , and it doesn’t help that I have had the most ridiculous chest infection that has amounted to nothing and something all at the same time- *sigh*. just this silly little ‘cough, cough’ every 2 minutes, grrrr! Its FINALLY exiting my system, so next week (let s just relax this weekend with lots of lying around doing nothing- something Im not very proficient at) I will be back into it, fully committed and CREATIVELY OFF THE PLANET!
Painting for fun #1 below: (not finished)
(c) Reina Cottier
#2 is a similar one to another I did about a month ago and it sold before it was finished, I enjoyed it so much I did another one: (unfinished)
#3 Going back to my basics and REALLY happy to be doing that, finding myself again with my shapes and tones and shades, …makes me feel good: (unfinished)
There are more, but I dont want to overload the senses lol!
So I have 5 or 6 commissions to complete, ive now lost count, but never fear, I have it written down somewhere, and actually will refer to it at some point. The commisions I am doing are really exciting for me because they are people who I know well, and there is an ease and a flow about creating something for someone when you have that connection.
Next blog post will hopefully be some finished works!
