in other news, colouring book is going really well,
the regional paper did a feature piece on me and it spurred alot of interest
resulting in many sales of the book, so very happy about that! 🙂

Paper Feature August 2015

Im also helping students at Tairua School do a whale mural for the school pool wall.
We have cut it into ’tiles’ and they will be mounted slightly apart…
progress is going well, with only detailing left to do, here is a part pic of it, not complete.

And last week, I had a stall at the Whitianga Art and Craft Fair… again, very successful, and alot fo fun.
Met some awesome local artists, and sold plenty of prints, colouring books and cards.
I also got 3 commissions out of it, and sold a mini board and 2 paintings…
cant really ask for more than that really, very pleased with the results.

things that inspire me creatively…

Im not and never have been a painter of fruit bowls, people or landscapes, -anything that ends up happening to look like one of these is PURELY accidental, not design :-)… oh & dont get me wrong, I have FULL respect for those that do and love it, …I dont. My kicks are from experiences, and feelings, the stuff within. All sounds rather deep and ommm i know, but really this is where im at. I remember at school, art, yip, won all the prizes for COPYING stuff, *sigh* this is so not satisfying for me, there is no expression of me when i copy a photo or a ‘thing’ and draw/paint it onto a page/canvas. I want to get soul stuff down, I want to be real (not for ONE minute saying that painting things like fruit aren’t real of course they are, its relative i guess :))about what i am projecting and what ever is then being perceived is up to the viewer. If someone looks at my art and gets a great feeling or connects with it in anyway that stirs something up for them then i am thrilled. I never want to dictate what thsoe things should be, therefore another reason im not going there with a bowl of roses and such.

Having said all that, yes, lately have investigated the ‘heart’ theme, and have been really enjoying it, .. trying to get it on the canvas in a way that is open for individual perception. Heart to me is about feeling, not something tangible in a solid 3D way, something that can be felt in a million ways.  A heart can be sensual, sensitive, vulnerable, and/or it can be empowered, strong and passionate. SOme hearts are closed for the time being, some are totally free. 🙂

If i have an aversion to something i will often ‘try it out’ just to ‘put it to rest’  once and for all. Sometimes it surprises me that i do enjoy it and the result is ok, or more than ok, and i like that. The Gemini I Am needs these challenges.

this man, (below)Jonas Gerard, is amazing, huge inspiration to me,  he paints to music and has the best philosophies. He paints with his hands too, fingers, palms, he FEELS the paint onto the canvas…  I watch him on Youtube and LOVE his freedom.
