I ALSO OFFER THIS AS A ONE ON ONE VIDEO CALL /ZOOM SESSION.

With almost 30 years of self employment (in 4 businesses) under my belt, I’ll share with you how I made my art my business using Social Media, (and other online sites) & how I increased art sales online with a relatively small following, and then built that following up with genuine, authentic input. How I built a global following (from New Zealand) and that translated into regular art sales across the world.
Also, how to make the most of the followers you do have,
rather than constantly trying to gain more.

TESTIMONIALS & REVIEWS

“Ive attended two of Reinas workshops now on social media and promoting business and found both to be very valuable.  Reina clearly understands how to use social media and gets her point across simply and effectively with practical examples which are relevant to someone running a business and not someone who has a fascination with the inner workings of Facebook or Instagram for the sake of it.
As a working artist who relies heavily on social media I would definitely  recommend her sessions”

….
I have had 2 Skype sessions with Reina now, on developing my art into a business. I have got so much out of it, I started knowing very little about the business side and how to market myself in an effective way. Reina showed me how to do this in a time and cost effective way.  I love how she is real about the struggles, gives relevent info according to where you are at because she has been there. It was easy, enjoyable and loved connecting with her. Thank you Reina!

I spent a half day with Reina in her studio learning all her tricks, we used an array of mediums, stencils, acrylic, inks, spray paint and much more. It was honestly the best 3 hours Ive had with regard to my art and feeling brave enough to try different things. I learned so much! Over the following months Im going to apply these techniques to my own art and I havent felt this excited about art in ages! Thank you Reina!

“MY ART WILL BE DISCOVERED.” If I keep working in my studio someone will discover me. No they  wont!!!. Exposure equals success. Reina will be able to walk you thru the ins and outs of online marketing, & building your presense in an ever increasing online art world. Reina has inspired  me to learn more about  what I need to do to make this all happen, and with her support  I have  been successful with online selling and advertising.”
-Wendy Walls- Artist

“The best thing I ever did was invest in a full day workshop with Reina. She knew how to connect with everyone and was very attentive and patient with all our individual needs. I learned so many new techniques that has helped my art to progress to the next level which, as a beginner, was what I was hoping for. Love her attitude & sense of humour too! Cant wait for the next one!”
-Cheryl Lovegrove- Artist
…..
“Reina’s social media workshop is so practicaland informative. She uses live examples of her own successful social media strategies which is so helpful for all aritsts sellling their work through social media. channels! Totally ecommend Reina.”
-Kathryn Tsui – former Curator & Administrator of the Mercury Bay Art Escape.
…..
“We were very pleased to have Reina as our workshop tutor last year.  She was generous in sharing her techniques using  stencils, rollers, overlaying, blending and fine work with free flowing inks & paint.  Reina did a group demonstration and also gave us all individual  attention.  We all came away inspired and some of us have continued with inks and others are using the techniques learned .  I would highly recommend Reina as a tutor .”
-Rachael Churton

“I have been an artist for twenty years and approx four years ago I recognised the need to build a social media platform to grow my sales and my brand. Knowing little in this area I met with Reina Cottier and spent an outstanding day with her in Tairua to build my understanding of this outlet. Reina’s knowledge and expertise was simply amazing and she set me on a path to significantly improve my sales results and to enjoy more success without the reliance on galleries who take a substantial amount of my sale price as commission. I am so grateful to Reina for sharing her expertise and ongoing support. I strongly recommend her to you if you are wishing to grow your art business.

Install: Painting 2- New Zealand Native Art

The second very large painting, (of three) has now been installed. A diptych (2 panels, each panel is 2.4m x 1m, so entire painting is 2.4m x 2m)) of New Zealand native plants and our native bird the Tui. This is on the second level of a 3 storey office block, in the internal stairwell.

Currently working on 8 paintings, have completely 2 whales, have a dolphin going, a lotus, and another frangipani painting.
Of course, I love it, and can only operate this way, if I only have one or two paintings on the go, I feel listless and bored & it never feels enough.

Peacock Series

May 8 sig©Reina Cottier Art 2014
(SOLD)

A while ago I decided to give painting my version of a peacock a go, but it took some time before that thought and the actualization of it to happen. Typical me, I have all these great ideas constantly, like a flow of thoughts & feelings, sometimes Ill get 10 at a time then nothing for a week,…or it’ll be a steady flow over a few days. The peacocks have been brewing for a while, like the owl (have i posted a pic of my owl yet?) and the whales and dolphins. So,back to peacocks:  I knew i wasnt going to feature the head or the body, (in that, i wasnt going to worry about making it look real) it was always going to be all about the ‘plumage’ and colours , so the decision was already made to feature the bird form the back, rather than the front…. I ended up doing 3 of them, one commission, and 2 others to sell. Both sold. Unfortunately the lady that bought the 2nd one had to pull out of the sale due to some personal stuff, so that (below) has now become available again.

what fun these were to do! Im definitely going to do more at some point, but of now, have moved onto other bird, well… sort of mythological Reina style birds :)…. Ill post up some pics soon… there’s a sense of freedom/liberation with this next series. 🙂

Pop into my FB page if you want to see more…. 🙂

Commissions and Pre Sold artworks

This month as been full of commissions, and artworks selling before I have finished them 🙂
Really enjoying the diversity of what people are asking for, Im fortunate enough to have wonderful people asking for pieces that are  fully trusting my process so they are not trying to control the outcome. My best work is when I am left to my own devises and all I really need is an idea of colour and size.

February 2014

Feb 14          ©Reina Cottier Art 2014

hey all, been a while huh… Ive had 9 weeks off painting because we moved house & towns,

we now live by the beach, a beautiful coastal town with the back drop of mountains covered in native bush… so so so happy here……

and then it was summer school holidays for 6 weeks here in New Zealand 🙂 Absolutely no painting gets done with kids around, 🙂

So, the above painting is  (finished and sold) one of the first I have done this last week.

Decided to kick of the year with a blast of colour and i have to say I love it.

Feb 18

this one is also finished, (and sold),

The 3 below are all in progress 🙂 so I have been busy, and as usual have about 7 paintings on the go at once

which is the only way I can work.

I have no plans in store for my art this year, other than to keep producing paintings that

make me feel good. Being by the sea is so much better for my soul/creativity.

Butterfly Series

A few months ago I spontaneously painted an abstract-ish butterfly, it was so popular, sold within 5 mins of  posting it, and everyone said ‘you HAVE to paint more butterflies!’……
I didnt feel like it at the time, but a few weeks ago, I suddenly had an urge, and in my usual style, have painted about 10 in 3 short weeks. LOL!
Here are a few of the ones I have done so far, more to come, they have all, but one, sold…..

‘Against the Grain’

ATG series #1© Reina Cottier Art 2013

New Series!
‘Against the Grain’

Aptly named, acrylic on canvas, abstract wood look backgrounds  with my Reina style korus & swirls atop.

I decided to try and create a more textured background for my shapes & colours.

Not at all planned or by design, I stumbled upon this wood look background and love it!

So set forth to put varies combinations of colour, swirl and curl on different shades and ‘wash’ of board.
I like how the spirals/korus ‘pop’ off the board, an illusion of 3D.

I really like the white wash board background of #3 above, I think so far this is my favourite,

although I am experimenting with many shades and tones of board.
SO the top 3 there are complete, (top 2 are sold), one above For Sale….

the next load of pics are all Works In Progress…..

 Have lots more creative energy for this series, so will continue in that flow until I lose interest, and then it will be onto something else.

Great weekend to all! 🙂

Shades of White

well this series happened quite by ‘accident’ ….

I painted the background of #1 and then doodled a very fast design straight onto the canvas and painted the outline of it white, as I always do as a prep for the rest to come… the COLOUR, the signature ‘Reina colour’ 🙂 ……

I posted an ‘In Progress’ pic on my FB page and got an overwhelming response of: “its FAB as it is!!” … so, a new series was born…

this is the finished result of the first one:

FINAL GAIA SPEAKS“Gaia Speaks”-by Reina Cottier
(c) Reina Cottier Art 2013

Pretty full on right now…… :)

That time again! More activity in Reina’s cavern of creation!  So, where to start?

Did this as a fun thing one day, sort of over time really, but it all came together in a flourish of swirls, teal, white and purple, and started to look really interesting…..

(c) Reina Cottier Art 2012

I post everything I create on Facebook on my art page, and it was clear that this was a hit 🙂 Two lovely ladies wanted it, one in Oz and one in USA…..and as of right now it is winging its way across the Pacific to USA. I look at this and see real New Zealand flavour,… purely unintentional of course, but i see lots of korus and flowing interlocking shapes and lines,  Loving the clear colours and feel of movement, and the elements, like i see wind/air, water, earth,,,, and even fire. The winds of change!

~~~~~~~~~~~~
This one below is a commission I did for a friend in Alaska,  she chose the colours and the basic feel of what she was after and left the rest to me:
(c) Reina Cottier Art 2012
This is a smaller sized piece for me, its 12″ x 16″, and at first I wondered if I was going to be able to ‘do my thing’ on such a little canvas, but it worked really well and I felt i was still able to get the feeling of movement with the shape, line and colors that I wanted to. I have shown her pics and she loves it. 🙂 This lady is all about loven light, so it was a total pleasure to be able to zone into that whilst creating that for her.
13 commissions,  3 down, 10 to go…….. 🙂
Lastly, finally the hard copy of the book I have been published in has arrived! It looks really professional, and im thrilled with how my art is showcased. Some really awesome artists have been chosen for this book so I felt honored to be amonst such talent.
~ 2011- Reina Cottier Art – Magical moon~ work in progress……
Acrylic on Canvas….(with a touch of gesso)…
Have wanted to paint a BIG FAT FULL MOON for absolutely AAAAAGES! Inspiration for this comes from where we have gone for holidays since i was 13 (and thats a looooong time, many many moons and then some lol!), a beautiful seaside town in New Zealand, on the Coromandel Peninsula called Tairua. *sigh* soooo gorgeous, layered mountains full of crystals on one side and the deep turquoise ocean on the other. The full moon at night there is sublime, because there are no city lights to dull her glow, her shine. AND the weather is often clear, so combine the 2 and it really is more than a sight to behold. MAGICAL!
I painted the background jet black to start, then used a mix of gesso and paint (mainly paint) to paint my moon. I used a brush and a sponge, (dabbing the sponge with tones of whites & yellows, and a dab of orange), I wanted that slightly stippled effect to give that crater surface from a million miles away look…keeping an upward swipe of flat, straight up the middle of the moon, which is where i am going to have ?????? undecided actually, most probably a plant/fern/native NZ flora of type of thing.-abstract of course 🙂
Warning: this could change at any given time, I am more than likely to toss it aside for a month and look at it every day with disdain, till I am thoroughly and utterly passionate (not just “yeh that’ll do”) about what is to have the foreground ‘prime’ position. It has to be interesting enough to be eye catching, but not SO much so that it steals the limelight from our leading lady, Luna.I will have some other detail somewhere, but it will be incidental i think, not a ‘lead role, hardly supporting either, ..more ‘cast as an extra’.
so… watch this space….. could happen tomorrow, maybe even tonight if the mood strike me, yes, i have been known to leap out of bed at 11.30pm, grab wine and bikkies, and head out to the studio to ‘do something very important’ just so i can sleep… when there is an idea/creativity bursting to be expressed there really is NO holding it back, it has a life of its own and i become the mere tool of getting it onto the canvas. Thrilling!!!!!!!!!
