Shades of White

well this series happened quite by ‘accident’ ….

I painted the background of #1 and then doodled a very fast design straight onto the canvas and painted the outline of it white, as I always do as a prep for the rest to come… the COLOUR, the signature ‘Reina colour’ 🙂 ……

I posted an ‘In Progress’ pic on my FB page and got an overwhelming response of: “its FAB as it is!!” … so, a new series was born…

Skite time! March was huge…..

HI everyone!

March was so busy for me! omg, conpleted 2 commissions, and sold 3 other paintings,as well as organising other art paraphernalia to go overseas.

Somewhere inbetween i managed to start 2 more paintings this being one of them:

felt the need, with such a short summer, to have some greens and yellows, then of course, I have to have the contrast, so threw in the purple and blue….really liking it so far, ..it pulls me in, I feel light when I look at it, so i really want to be careful not to make it too ‘heavy’ both visually and energetically, I want to keep the ‘uplift’ factor going.

And I loved my Heart Soul Whole (see previous blog entry) so much, I started  a version of it for myself, not triptych, no words….

a fun thing i did in a very short space of time…didnt feel the need to add to it, even though i knew it was quite basic and simple, i liked that. 🙂

Off to Oz on Thursday with commission #2, all but complete, looks fantastic, will post a pic when complete.Staying for 4 nights, really looking forward to it, some shopping in Sydney, seeing some friends, and family. Cant wait. 🙂

2012- Reina Cottier Art Evolve~Love~

So finally got some space yesterday to finish, or at least head toward finishing some pieces…. its a good feeling to pick them up one by one and either completely change, or edit hugely, …or tweak a little just to complete.

First up: above ‘Evolve/Love’ I started this one about a month ago and it only took an hour to do most of it. My partner had helped to  demolish the interior of a shop (he is a painter) and had come home with the perspex letters that made up the shop sign. Of course, what is an artist to do???!!!! 🙂 Id had this idea for a while and just hadn’t got around to making ym own stencils, so was very excited to be able to unwrap a big cnavas and had it as something like a statement, rather than a little squeak. I dont do small very well, Most of my paintings are at least 24″ x 30″ or larger. This one is bigger than that.  I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. You cant see very well but the heart has some beautiful stencil -and hand painted- detail in it with a washed white, to really punch it out, and the top of the heart has gold sprinkles with the green and yellow. This photo does it NO justice. its way more intense and bold in real life. Almost finished.

Ok, remember this? so this one i have chopped and changed alot. Im getting there, also enjoying it, but not with my usual ‘lightening speed’ power painitng style, this one has purposely been a more ‘careful’ process, one that i have (unusually) considered and pondered, in a most loving way too LOL! sounds weird, but if I like a piece of anyones art, incl my own, a little part of my falls in love with it.  🙂 Its not finished, nearly there.

ok, so this one… i love the colours together!!! something really soothing for me, a cathartic process, couldn’t get it to this stage fast enough, from memory did this in one hit, took about an hour and half, maybe a bit more-used the fan heater to dry the layers in between, dont think i cooked dinner that night- too engrossed. Not finished. Still have to edge the cream shapes with a darker colour and define them against eac other as some of them overlap.

this one! (not finished) this sat in my studio at the very back of the pile for a year, as a background of red, grey and white cloudy looking shapes. Could NOT decide for the life of me what to do with the dam thing…. then POW out of the blue the other day… got it! It was ‘courage’, thats what i got! I need the GUTS to just do something, anything over this background, i literally need to throw some paint at it and see what happened. I love my planetary, cosmic, galaxy thing i have made! still a ways to go…. but yeh… Reina’s world.

Phew! been meaning and wanting to get in here for a long time,..have missed it. So am kidless this weekend, going to paint some more today and start another…. will be back  with up dates

hi everyone! 🙂

well, as the title says, Ive gone a bit crazy with the stencil thang. 🙂 Discovered scrap booking aisle (never scrapbooked in my life- well actually, I was doing all that with my photo albums WAYYYYY back, like in the 80’s & 90’s -you should see my Europe trip album its a masterpiece creatively!-before anyone ever marketed the idea with paraphenalia to sell with it!) at our local Warehouse store and flipped out! omg, sooooooooooooo good for art, the stencils are negatives but i dont care, in fact i like it….. bought one for a whole $1.99 *GASPS* and boy, hours & hours of creative pleasure!

Ready? (these are experiments, some unfinished, some maybe finished, not sure….)

2011- Reina Cottier Art -no sleep…

ugh, loathe that. When you feel all uber creative, ideas coming left right and centre and its 1am, you should be asleep for soooooo many reasons, the LEAST of which Miss 5 gets up at the crack of dawn an Miss 7 is not far behind her, also was unusually sick (like REALLY) sick-flu symptoms- yesterday so my body needed to heal…. but no…. nup…. as soon as the light went out, eyes shut, a plethora of creative visions streamed into my head, bursting…arrghh! This is not unusual and at first it was wonderful, after 5 years of being ‘with child/near child/helping child(s)/making sure child(s) doesn’t kill itself on that sharp knife/scissors/edge of stair etc’, I was FINALLY able to be a BIT free to create/design, dream, and actually get some sort of RESULT- HORRAY!!!! But a year on and Im OVER IT. Ok, bleet finished, as you were.

NOW,,, as a result of last nights brain surge, (finally dropped off after 3am *YAWN* ) today I started this, as just a way of getting SOMETHING out of my head, to create some space….

ok, so obviously the white bits are NOT going to be white. 🙂 I have temporarily painted my basic shapes this colour over the deep purple, so my finished colours look brighter. Im going to use alot of different colours and shades & shading. The colours you DO see there are slapped on, and in no way ‘finished’. I like to get a basic overall look n feel of it before i go back in for the detail part. And ther eis going to be alot more detail, all over, this is just the very basic outline, the start of something that will develop over time.

Have to say it feel DAM GOOD TO GET THAT OUT! lol!

2011- Reina Cottier Art -Multi tasking again

2 unfinished works in progress, started this one yesterday:

this is the background, im LOVING the colours, feel like i could dive right in there. 🙂 Really inspired by the sun at the moment, the colours, the energy, the feel of it, and I have always had a major love affair with water, any type of water, so… this one will be nurtured and adored and cherished for a while and we will see where that takes me, as usual hardly any plan to speak of, just go with the flow and the feelings that are conjured up.

im about half way thru, … been through a few stages with this one, started off with great gusto, gesso thrown with abandon onto the canvas, and lots of scraping and swirling…. then it all came to a grinding halt, for weeks, now im back into it with a passion, needed to connect the top and bottom of it, it was really disconnected before and i wasn’t sure what was required, started again yesterday and it seems, for the time being, to be flowing along, feels good.

Other than that, I have taken to photography a little and really enjoying it!

My calendar of my word art for 2012 is up and running online,opened a Zazzle store and am having a ball creating all sorts of things from shoes, to iphone/ipad covers to key chains/rings and necklaces, another outlet for the creativity, what could be better than that!

Acrylic on Canvas….(with a touch of gesso)…

Have wanted to paint a BIG FAT FULL MOON for absolutely AAAAAGES! Inspiration for this comes from where we have gone for holidays since i was 13 (and thats a looooong time, many many moons and then some lol!), a beautiful seaside town in New Zealand, on the Coromandel Peninsula called Tairua. *sigh* soooo gorgeous, layered mountains full of crystals on one side and the deep turquoise ocean on the other. The full moon at night there is sublime, because there are no city lights to dull her glow, her shine. AND the weather is often clear, so combine the 2 and it really is more than a sight to behold. MAGICAL!

I painted the background jet black to start, then used a mix of gesso and paint (mainly paint) to paint my moon. I used a brush and a sponge, (dabbing the sponge with tones of whites & yellows, and a dab of orange), I wanted that slightly stippled effect to give that crater surface from a million miles away look…keeping an upward swipe of flat, straight up the middle of the moon, which is where i am going to have ?????? undecided actually, most probably a plant/fern/native NZ flora of type of thing.-abstract of course 🙂

Warning: this could change at any given time, I am more than likely to toss it aside for a month and look at it every day with disdain, till I am thoroughly and utterly passionate (not just “yeh that’ll do”) about what is to have the foreground ‘prime’ position. It has to be interesting enough to be eye catching, but not SO much so that it steals the limelight from our leading lady, Luna.I will have some other detail somewhere, but it will be incidental i think, not a ‘lead role, hardly supporting either, ..more ‘cast as an extra’.

so… watch this space….. could happen tomorrow, maybe even tonight if the mood strike me, yes, i have been known to leap out of bed at 11.30pm, grab wine and bikkies, and head out to the studio to ‘do something very important’ just so i can sleep… when there is an idea/creativity bursting to be expressed there really is NO holding it back, it has a life of its own and i become the mere tool of getting it onto the canvas. Thrilling!!!!!!!!!
